Nirbhay Bharat Foundation calls for immediate reforms in JKCA Governance

JAMMU, Nov 19: The Nirbhay Bharat Foundation (NBF) has expressed grave concerns over the prolonged stagnation within the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), calling for immediate elections and adherence to the Lodha Committee's recommendations.
The foundation, committed to transparency and reform in sports governance, criticized the failure of the JKCA to comply with essential guidelines established by the Lodha Committee and endorsed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). These guidelines, which include regular elections and age/tenure limits for officials, are crucial for ensuring accountability and preventing the entrenchment of power.
Despite the formation of a BCCI subcommittee in 2021 to oversee JKCA's electoral process, no significant progress has been made. NBF Chairperson Tarun Uppal highlighted the lack of infrastructure development, biased selection processes, and the displacement of local talent in tournaments like the Ranji Trophy.
The foundation also raised concerns about conflicts of interest, particularly involving JKCA subcommittee member Mithun Manhas, who holds dual roles with JKCA and the IPL's Gujarat Titans.
Further, the delay in constructing the much-anticipated Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in Kathua district and the sidelining of club cricket were cited as setbacks that undermine cricket's growth in the region.
NBF has urged BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to intervene and address the issues plaguing JKCA, advocating for democratic reforms, fair selections, and renewed focus on local talent. It has also called on stakeholders and the cricketing community to join in demanding immediate action to restore integrity and accountability to JKCA.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and ensuring a bright future for cricket in Jammu and Kashmir.
