Sources close to the party leadership hinted that a high-level restructuring is on the cards. A senior Congress leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The leadership has taken the feedback seriously. There is a growing realization that merely relying on legacy and status quo won’t work anymore. Tough decisions will have to be made.” Party insiders have also pointed to the need for greater involvement of younger leaders who have a better understanding of the ground realities. The call for change is expected to feature prominently in the upcoming meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, where sweeping reforms might be announced. The Congress party, which once dominated Jammu’s politics, has seen a steady decline in recent years, culminating in the current crisis. With this latest debacle, calls for accountability and change have reached fever pitch. Whether the leadership will muster the courage to take decisive steps remains to be seen, but the rank and file of the party are clear: revival demands action, not rhetoric. |
