Jammu, Dec 6: Mahaparinivan Divas was observed today to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, fondly known as Baba Saheb, at Shelter Home Boria Gorkh Nagar, Bahu Fort, Jammu. The event highlighted the life and mission of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who fought for the equal rights of all individuals, regardless of caste, creed, or color. Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Basson, former Corporator, emphasized Dr. Ambedkar's pivotal role in shaping the Indian Constitution, which includes special provisions for children, women, the labor class, and the SC/ST/OBC communities. He noted that Mahaparinivan Divas is observed across India and abroad, with the main function held at Chaitya Bhoomi in Dadar, Mumbai. Basson also spoke about Baba Saheb's relentless efforts in eradicating social evils. Sham Lal Basson further mentioned the "Know Your Constitution" competitive exam, which was held at various schools and sabhas on November 16th and 17th, 2024. The exam culminated in a National Level competition at the International Institute of Engineering and Technology, Haryana, where Keerat Kumar emerged as the national topper. The Constitution Day was also celebrated at the state level on December 1st, 2024, at Gurudwara Shri Guru Ravi Dass Ji Maharaj, Bahu Fort, Jammu. The event saw the felicitation of meritorious students, with Jenab Javed Ahmed Rana serving as the chief guest and Dr. Raj Rup Fulia, retired Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana and former Vice Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, as the guest of honor. The Mahaparinivan Divas event, along with the various educational initiatives, served as a reminder of Dr. Ambedkar's vision for a just and equal society. |
