Cong leaders seek support from NC for Rajya Sabha berth

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 6: In a surprising political development, senior Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have reportedly approached National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, bypassing their party's central leadership in Delhi.
The move is seen as an attempt to secure a Rajya Sabha berth, as the state's political dynamics shift after the Assembly elections.
Sources within the political circles reveal that these Congress leaders, instead of lobbying with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership in the national capital, have sought "rehabilitation" through an understanding with the NC.
This outreach highlights the evolving political equations in Jammu and Kashmir, where the regional NC holds significant influence in shaping electoral outcomes.
The development comes at a time when the Congress is grappling with internal challenges and attempting to reassert its relevance in the region. While the National Conference has not officially comment

Congress leaders in J&K are seeking "rehabilitation" through NC rather than the party's high command.
This outreach highlights the evolving political equations in Jammu and Kashmir.
d on the matter, insiders suggest that the party is weighing its options carefully, keeping in view the strategic benefits of such an alliance.
Sources said that last week, a senior Congress who lost the Assembly elections, met the National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and sought his blessing to get a berth in the Rajya. “After meeting Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the same leader told his supporters that the National Conference president has promised to support him for the Rajya Sabha seat”, sources said.
The move to seek NC's support reflects the Congress leaders' recognition of the National Conference's central role in the region's political landscape, especially after the Assembly elections.
Political observers believe this outreach could indicate a potential realignment of forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Whether this will translate into an alliance or electoral pact remains to be seen, but the development underscores the shifting sands of politics in the Union Territory.
