Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 7: As part of the AIDS Awareness Week, Gandhi Memorial Science College (GGM Science College) organized a Human Chain Activity under the slogan, "Let us join hands to make a difference. Let us show the world that we care." The initiative was led by the Red Ribbon Club in collaboration with the NSS Unit of GGM Science College, with the guidance of Dr. P.S. Thakur and the patronage of Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college. The Human Chain activity was designed to demonstrate solidarity with the JK AIDS Control Society while raising awareness about HIV/AIDS among students, faculty, and the local community. The initiative aimed to: Dispelling myths associated with HIV/AIDS Reducing stigma surrounding the condition Encouraging voluntary testing and counselling The event also focused on promoting an inclusive and compassionate approach toward people affected by AIDS. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of GGM Science College, addressed the students, emphasizing their role as future leaders in combating the spread of disease. He highlighted: HIV/AIDS is more than a medical issue; it reflects social stigma impacting individuals, families, and communities. The importance of fostering a society that is informed, compassionate, and supportive toward affected individuals. The activity witnessed active participation from enthusiastic students. The event was coordinated by a dedicated team, including: Prof. Sunita Kumari, Assistant Dean DSW CLUJ Dr. Neha Sharma and Dr. Rahul Kait, NSS Programme Officers Dr. Bekam Paul Singh, Associate Professor in Botany Dr. Arti Sharma, HOD of Environmental Science The program concluded with a pledge: "Let us work together to create a world that will not tolerate stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS."
