SRINAGAR, Dec 7: After recording the coldest night of the season, the night temperature improved in Kashmir on Saturday, although it still remained below the freezing point. The meteorological centre in Srinagar said the Shopian in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley, with the mercury plummeting to minus 4.5 degrees Celsius. The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of -4.3 degree Celsius. MeT said that summer capital Srinagar witnessed the minimum temperature of -2 degree Celsius, against minus 4.1 degrees the previous night. Incidentally, on Friday Srinagar had recorded the coldest night of the season so far. Kashmir’s ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum night temperature of -2.6 degree Celsius while in Kupwara, mercury dropped to -3.6 degree Celsius. Kashmir’s independent weather observer said that Zojila, which connects Kashmir with Ladakh, recorded the night temperature of minus 19 degrees Celsius. The MeT update said in the Jammu region, Banihal was the only station to record below the freezing point night temperature. The Jammu city recorded 8.1 degrees, Katra 7.4, Batote 3.1, Banihal minus 0.4, and Bhaderwah 0.6 as the minimum temperature. The MeT has predicted isolated to light rain or snow on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir. Later the weather is likely to remain dry till December 12. |
