Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 7: St. John's Rehabilitation Centre, a wing of the Catholic Social Service Society (CSSS), Jammu, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with immense enthusiasm and spirit on December 7, 2024. Established in 2008, the Centre has been a pillar of hope and rehabilitation for over 40 children from the Mandal region, focusing on their development and integration into mainstream society. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a soulful prayer dance performed by special children, setting a serene and inspiring tone for the occasion. Sr. Stani Therese CMC welcomed the gathering with a heartfelt address that emphasized the importance of inclusivity and empowerment. The celebration featured cultural performances by the special children and students from Participatory Knowledge Centre (PKC), Nagrota, showcasing traditional dances such as the Lungi Dance, Punjabi Folk Dances, Dogri Couple Dance, and Punjabi Bhangra. A standout was a creative Kitchen Orchestra presented by the special children, which captivated the audience with its originality and enthusiasm. Additionally, students from MIER performed a thought-provoking skit titled "There is ability in every disability," highlighting the untapped potential and strength of individuals with disabilities and the importance of fostering inclusivity. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira, Bishop of Jammu-Srinagar Diocese, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. While addressing the gathering, he said: "Every individual is a masterpiece of God's creation, and our responsibility is to provide them the opportunities they need to shine. This centre is a testament to the power of inclusion and love." The chief guest, Kirandeep Kour, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Phallian Mandal, lauded the efforts of St. John's Rehabilitation Centre and the children for their remarkable spirit, stating: "The talent and spirit showcased here today reflect the true essence of humanity-strength in diversity and unity in purpose. I commend the efforts of St. John's Rehabilitation Centre in empowering these children to dream big and achieve their goals." Students from the Accelerated Learning Centre (ALC), Nagrota, added vibrant energy to the celebration with their lively group dance performances. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. Senoj Thomas, Director of CSSS, who acknowledged the importance of inclusivity and opportunity, stating: "Today's celebration is a reminder of the incredible potential that lies in each of us. Together, we can build a society that values and celebrates every individual, regardless of their abilities." Since its establishment in 2008, St. John's Rehabilitation Centre has remained committed to addressing the rehabilitation needs of children with disabilities.
