Udhampur, Dec 7: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur commemorated the Mahaparinirvan Divas of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Social Harmony Day. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, who greeted Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania and the special invitees, the safai karamcharis, who were honored with bouquets. In her address, Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania emphasized the significance of Social Harmony Day in promoting the ideals of unity in diversity. Dr. Ravinder Kumar and Prof. Yash Paul, Head of the History Department, delivered speeches on the life and contributions of Baba Sahab Ambedkar. Dr. Ravinder Kumar highlighted his pivotal role in framing the Indian Constitution and his concept of social democracy. Prof. Yash Paul elaborated on Ambedkar’s doctrine of social justice and his impactful social contributions. Mr. Vipin, representing the safai karamcharis, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the NSS Unit and the college administration for their thoughtful gesture of inclusivity and respect. The event was attended by 150 students and all faculty members. The proceedings were conducted by NSS volunteers Manayata Kotwal and Tanya Patyal, while volunteers Bhumi Salotra, Ritika Sharma, Khushi, Bharti Sharma, and Shagun Sharma also delivered speeches, reflecting on Baba Sahab’s legacy. The event underscored the teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the importance of social harmony in building a united and inclusive society. |
