Shed partisan politics, deliver on poll promises: Parra to NC | Interview | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth president and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, has called upon the National Conference (NC) leadership to work for the development of all citizens rather than focusing exclusively on their supporters. In an exclusive interview with Early Times, Para stressed the need for the current government to shed partisan politics and deliver on its promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The National Conference has received a massive mandate, and it must respect it. The NC leaders need to abandon their old habits and ensure that everyone is accommodated,” Para remarked. “They cannot limit their efforts to helping only their own people.” Taking aim at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s administration, Para stated that the government has yet to accomplish any significant milestones. “As the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah must assert his authority. He cannot just remain busy cutting ribbons; he has to deliver as the head of J&K,” he said. Para highlighted several issues plaguing the region, including the lack of significant development projects, rising electricity bills without adequate power supply, and delays in fulfilling employment promises. “The government needs to exhibit the will to help the people. So far, there has been no notable achievement by the Omar Abdullah administration,” he added. Para also raised concerns over the recruitment processes in Jammu and Kashmir, citing controversies such as paper leaks and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probes in recent years. According to him, such scandals As Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah must assert his authority. The Chief Minister cannot just remain busy cutting ribbons. The Govt needs to exhibit will to help the people. Create job opportunities for youth, regularize daily wagers. ave eroded public trust in recruitment agencies. “Fast-track recruitments conducted in the past two to three years were mired in controversies. This has led to a loss of faith among the youth, who once trusted the fairness of the recruitment process in J&K,” he said. He further criticized the trend of awarding contracts to outsiders after 2019, leaving local contractors to work as sub-contractors. “Most of the contracts are now going to outsiders, reducing local people to mere sub-contractors. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have lost hope,” he lamented. Para outlined several demands for the government, including creating job opportunities for the youth, handing over contracts to locals, and regularizing the 70,000 daily wagers and casual laborers in the region. “The new government has many responsibilities. It should fulfill its promise of providing one lakh jobs, hand over contracts to local contractors, and regularize daily wagers and casual laborers. These steps will help restore the faith of the youth in the system,” he said. He contrasted the current administration’s performance with that of the PDP’s previous tenure, during which, he claimed, thousands of youth were recruited. Para urged the government to restore transparency in recruitment and focus on delivering development and economic stability to the region. “We must restore the faith of the youth in recruitment agencies. Without their trust, it will be difficult to achieve lasting progress,” he emphasized. He said, “People Below Poverty Line (BPL) are been given Above Poverty Line (APL) ration cards. How are these cards being issued without census?” |
