Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 20: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, expressed confidence that the Omar Abdullah-led government will prioritize the development of Jammu's unexplored tourist destinations, bringing them onto the national tourism stage. This initiative aims to boost the local economy and provide employment opportunities for the region's youth. Addressing a public meeting in the scenic Panchari area, Sadhotra highlighted Jammu Division's vast tourism potential, urging that it be explored and optimally harnessed for regional transformation. He emphasized that under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's leadership, both Jammu and Kashmir will receive equitable opportunities for growth. Sadhotra proposed the development of Panchari as a key tourism hub, focusing on pilgrimage, adventure, and nature tourism. He stressed the importance of promoting areas like Bani-Basohli, Bhaderwah, Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch, known for their stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, through national and international campaigns. "Developing Jammu's tourism sector is not just about attracting tourists; it's about creating livelihoods, boosting local businesses, and fostering socio-economic growth," he said. He called for improved infrastructure, better road connectivity, and the establishment of eco-tourism projects to make Jammu a year-round tourist destination. He also stressed the importance of sustainability and community involvement to preserve the region's natural and cultural heritage. Former Minister and Zonal President, Abdul Gani Malik, supported the idea of developing the Panchari tourism circuit, which would greatly benefit the Gool and Panchari regions. Provincial Secretary Mohammad Ayub Malik emphasized the hope that the new government under Omar Abdullah would bring prosperity to neglected areas. MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Rajput urged the government to expedite the completion of the Sewa Hydel Project to meet power demands and generate jobs for local youth. Locals also raised the issue of a degree college to cater to the growing number of students in the region, which Sadhotra assured would be addressed. During the event, hundreds of youth joined the National Conference. Sadhotra welcomed the new members and expressed hope that their joining would further strengthen the party and its leadership. Prominent attendees included Sunil Verma (District President Udhampur), Abdul Gani Teli (Chairman OBC), Ram Parshotam Sharma (District President Udhampur Rural), and many others. |
