J&K Police seize forest wood, arrest one in Kathua | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Dec 20: J&K Police Kathua successfully recovered and seized a truck loaded with forest wood logs in the Behani-Chowk Mahanpur area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Basohli. The vehicle, a Load Carrier (Truck) bearing registration number HP38D-0226, was allegedly involved in the illegal smuggling of banned forest produce. Acting on a reliable tip-off, the police team, led by the In-Charge of PCP Mahanpur and under the supervision of SDPO Basohli and SHO P/S Basohli, set up a naka at Mahanpur. Upon checking the truck, it was found to be carrying a large quantity of forest wood logs. When asked for documentation, the driver, Bunty Kumar, son of Balwant Singh from Dunera, Tehsil & District Pathankot, failed to produce any valid papers for the timber. As a result, the police seized the forest wood along with the truck and arrested Bunty Kumar. He was later handed over to the Forest Check Post Mahanpur for further legal proceedings. The police have initiated further investigation into the matter to uncover any broader illegal activities related to forest smuggling in the region. |
