After skipping his Choubarsi, Cong to observe death anniversary of Madan Lal Sharma | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 22: In the wake of its worst-ever performance in the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, where the Congress managed to secure just six seats, the party leadership has decided to commemorate the contributions of its prominent leaders who played pivotal roles in strengthening the organization. After skipping the fourth death anniversary (Choubarsi) of the party’s veteran leader Madan Lal Sharma, now the Congress leadership has decided to observe his death anniversary on Monday at party headquarters in Sheedhi Chowk Jammu. The fourth death anniversary of the late Madan Lal Sharma was observed on December 9 but not even a single Congress leader spared time to attend the function to pay tributes to the great leader. After releasing their mistake of not attending the Choubarsi of a two-time Lok Sabha member, the Congress leadership has now decided to organize a separate function in respect of party’s veteran leader. “All AICC members, PCC Members, Ex-legislators, DCC office bearers, Block Presidents and Ward presidents along with their teams, Ex-Corporators, contested candidates, party colleagues, senior leaders, and members are requested to attend the programme to observe the death anniversary of late Madan Lal Sharma”, Th Manmohan Singh, President District Congress Committee Jammu Urban, mentioned in an official letter. Acknowledging a disconnect with grassroots workers as a major reason for the historic debacle, the Congress is aiming to rebuild its bond with party cadres and supporters. This initiative will involve observing special days dedicated to the memory of leaders who made significant contributions to the party's growth and influence in the region. A senior Congress leader stated, "The recent election results have been a wake-up call for the party. By honoring the legacy of our past leaders, we hope to inspire both our workers and supporters, reminding them of the principles and sacrifices that define the Congress party." The party plans to organize events such as seminars, public interactions, and outreach programs on these days. The leadership believes that revisiting the values and vision of stalwart leaders will reignite a sense of purpose and unity among grassroots workers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to revamp the party’s organizational structure and regain its lost ground in the Union Territory. Senior leaders are expected to undertake extensive tours to remote areas, engaging directly with the workers and addressing their concerns. As the Congress seeks to rebuild its base in Jammu and Kashmir, the move to commemorate its leaders aims to not only restore internal confidence but also project the party’s rich history and relevance to the public. Whether this strategy will translate into political revival remains to be seen. |
