YRS supports Katra protesters, demands immediate release of detainees | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 28: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) expressed strong solidarity with the residents of Katra protesting against the proposed ropeway to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. At a press conference held at the Press Club Jammu, YRS condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters and issued a one-day ultimatum for their release. Raghubir Singh, Chairman of YRS, criticized the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) for neglecting the sentiments and livelihoods of the local population. "The Shrine Board is harassing those who donated land for the shrine instead of respecting their contributions. The arrests of peaceful protesters are unjust," he said. Vikram Singh Vicky, YRS President, accused the Shrine Board of prioritizing commercialization over welfare. He highlighted how initiatives like helicopter and battery car services have deviated from their original purpose of aiding the elderly and differently-abled. Former YRS President, Rajan Singh Happy, stressed the spiritual and economic implications of the ropeway project, stating it undermines the traditional pilgrimage route and threatens the livelihoods of thousands dependent on the shrine. The YRS warned of a march to Katra if demands are not met within 24 hours. Leaders also urged political and social figures to support the Dogra community and the Katra residents. Prominent members, including Rajinder Singh, Pushvinder Singh, and others, were present at the event, reaffirming their commitment to the cause. |
