PDD’s callous approach making people to suffer: Balbir
12/29/2024 10:25:44 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 29: The mismanagement and the callous aaproah of the Power Development Department (PDD) has left the people of Jammu to suffer for long hours due to power cuts.
Balbir Ram Rattan, BJP senior leader & former vice chairperson, said this while reacting to the reports that more than fifteen (15) transformers were burnt and numrous feeders got damaged in a single day in Jammu after season’s first rains.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that burning of such a large number of transformers badly hit lakhs of people in different areas of Jammu, which speaks volumes of the mismanagement and poor planning of the department in maintaining the proper functioning of transformers and feeders.
In the past, there had been reports of burning and causing damage to transformers in peak summers but it is rare that in winters too there are such incidents” Balbir said, adding that it is the reflective of the poor prepareness of the department, which has not learnt from the past experience and improved its infrastructure in advance.
Balbir further said that there is a full fledged department, which has to maintain and keep updating its infrastructure keeping in view the power load but, it appears, that those at the helm of affairs are just passing time and have turned deaf’s ear to the needs of the consumers.
The frequent power cuts and poor maintenance of electricity infrastructure disrupts daily life, particularly during the harsh winter months. The power cuts not only hamper household activities but also impact local businesses and industries. Students preparing for examinations, patients reliant on medical equipment, are among the worst affected.
He reminded that despite repeated assurances from PDD officials about improving the power supply, the situation remains grim. The lack of a robust plan to upgrade outdated infrastructure and ensure an uninterrupted power supply reflects the department’s negligence.
He expressed hope that the department would take proactive measures and improve its infrastructure to avoid the repetion of such like incidents of burning of transformers and ensure regular power supply.
