Orientation training for legal services units concludes | | | Early Times Report
BHADERWAH, Jan 4: A four-day orientation training program for the Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) and the Legal Services Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) concluded successfully in Bhaderwah toda. Held under the guidance of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Balbir L. Jaswal, the training was aimed at enhancing the implementation of NALSA Schemes 2024. The program was inaugurated virtually by V. S. Manhas, retired judge and mentor for LSUC and LSUM, who highlighted the vital role of these units in ensuring access to legal services for vulnerable groups. The sessions were led by Tabraiz Ahmed, Secretary DLSA Bhaderwah, with active involvement from panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers (PLVs). Key topics discussed during the training included the provisions of the NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme 2024, legal services under the Juvenile Justice Act, and the NALSA Scheme for persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. Special focus was laid on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Mental Health Act, 2017. The program concluded with an insightful address by Balbir L. Jaswal, who emphasized the importance of nurturing children and supporting persons with mental illnesses in a dignified manner. The event witnessed participation from several legal professionals and PLVs, including Adv. Vikrant Mahajan, Adv. Sushant Mahajan, and Adv. Divya Kotwal. |
