Police arrest two drug peddlers, including woman in Baramulla | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday and seized contraband substances from them. Police said a suspect was intercepted at a checkpoint at Bela Crossing Boniyar in Uri, and during his search, 50 grams of a charas-like contraband substance was recovered. He was subsequently identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Hundi Nowshera, and arrested. A case under relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Boniyar, and an investigation was initiated. "During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a woman identified as Shameema Begum, a resident of Lari Kasi Boniyar. Acting on this lead, a police team, accompanied by the concerned magistrate, conducted a search of the woman's residence," police said. "The search led to the recovery of 62 grams of a charas-like substance and 1 kg of charas powder. The woman was immediately arrested." Police said further investigations are underway to uncover the broader nexus of this illegal activity. |
