JKTJAC demands resolution of teachers’ Issues at monthly meeting | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Jan 5: The Jammu Kashmir Teachers' Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) held its monthly meeting under the leadership of UT President Vinod Sharma and District President Lekh Raj Parihar. The gathering, attended by executive and apex body members from all zones of the district, focused on addressing the pressing issues faced by the teaching fraternity. Speaking at the meeting, Vinod Sharma urged the government to resolve the genuine and long-pending demands of teachers, especially those appointed under the Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme. He emphasized the implementation of Government Order No. 469 Edu of 2014, which provides for the inclusion of the 5-year ReT period for seniority and transfer benefits. Highlighting a recent directive by the Hon'ble CAT, Sharma noted that ReTs, post-regularization, should be treated on par with general line teachers and be eligible for district-level transfers. Sharma also called for the revival of the Old Pension Scheme for employees appointed on or after January 1, 2010, citing it as a crucial demand for the welfare of the teaching community. Other demands raised by the UT President included: • Regularization of ReTs completing 5 years of service. • Conversion of RRETs to Teachers Grade II/III. • Cash-in-lieu benefits for teachers. • Conversion of headteacher posts into non-plan master posts. • Conducting another DPC for teachers to masters. • Release of time-barred arrears for teachers and masters. • Raising the pay grade of teachers to match their counterparts in other UTs. • Granting earned leave for teachers engaged in summer/winter camps and other duties. • Filling vacant ZEO, principal, and headmaster positions in headless schools. District President Lekh Raj Parihar highlighted specific concerns, such as incomplete service records of teachers in some zones and the overdue release of carriage charges under the Mid-Day Meal scheme, which has burdened teachers with transportation costs. Other speakers, including Ashok Seth, Ravinder Singh Rathore, Bhushan Khajuria, and Shamsher Singh, echoed these concerns and urged the government to take immediate action to address the teachers' issues. The meeting concluded with a call for sustained efforts to resolve these burning issues and improve the working conditions of the teaching fraternity. |
