Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 6: A five-day "Training of Trainers (TOT) Capacity Building of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir" commenced at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, Jammu, and MANAGE Hyderabad. The program, running from January 6-10, 2025, is part of the HADP-20 project titled Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agriculture in Jammu & Kashmir. Inaugurating the event, A. S. Reen, Director of Agriculture, Jammu, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of equipping field functionaries with the knowledge to enhance agricultural practices at the grassroots. He highlighted that such training is pivotal for fostering the formation and effective functioning of FPOs in the region. Prof. Vinod Gupta, Head of the Division of Agricultural Extension Education and Principal Investigator of the HADP-20 project, welcomed dignitaries and participants. He encouraged trainees to leverage expertise from MANAGE Hyderabad faculty on FPO formation and operations. Asif Mohi-Ud-Din, a resource person from MANAGE Hyderabad, stressed the significance of FPOs in promoting group farming and addressing challenges like marketing, post-harvest management, and farmers' development. The program aims to strengthen agricultural practices and foster self-reliant farming communities in Jammu and Kashmir. |
