24th Institutional Animal Ethics Committee meeting held

JAMMU, Jan 11: SKUAST-Jammu, under the able guidance of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor and supervision of Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, FVSc &AH, R S Pura, the 24th Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) under CCSEA (Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiment on Animals), Government of India, New Delhi, meeting was held at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R. S. Pura, (J&K). Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, welcomed all external and internal expert members and informed research activities conducted on experimental animals by the Veterinary Faculty members. He informed the esteemed expert committee members that there was total seventeen (17) agenda items to be discussed during the meeting. After threadbare intensive discussion, out of 17 agendas, 12 were approved by the IAEC and 05 (five) agenda items were recommended for the approval from Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), Ministry of Fisheries, animal Husbandry and Dairying department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, New Delhi.
Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, main nominee from SKUAST-Kashmir accompanied by Dr Bilal Ahamd, and Dr Muneeb Ur Rahman from SKUAST-Kashmir and Mohd Sayed, a Socially Aware Nominee from Pulwama, Kashmir were present during the meeting and Internal members (Prof H.R. Bharadwaj, HoD and Dr Pankaj Gupta, Veterinary Surgery, Prof. Ankur Rastogi, Animal Nutrition were actively involved in discussions and follows the 3R concept i.e. reduce, reuse and refine the research protocol for use of experimental animals. The meeting was organised by Prof. Pawan K Verma, Member Secretary, IAEC and meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Member secretary, IAEC to the chair and Expert members of IAEC, F. V. Sc. & AH., R.S. Pura, Jammu for their active participation reviewing the uses of experimental animals in research protocols.
