Kathua, Jan 17: Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, in collaboration with the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Traffic Police Rural Jammu, and District Administration, organized a Symposium on Road Safety under the theme “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha” as part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month (January 1–31, 2025). The event, held in the college auditorium, was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Rakesh Minhas, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, and Guest of Honour Sh. Girdhari Lal Sharma, SSP Traffic, Kathua. The program began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana. In her welcome address, Principal Prof. Seema Mir lauded the district administration’s efforts in promoting road safety awareness and praised Dr. Minhas as a role model for the younger generation. Dr. Minhas emphasized the significance of adhering to traffic rules for the safety of drivers and pedestrians and congratulated the college for hosting such an impactful event. A road safety pledge was also taken by all attendees. The symposium featured 12 participants from various degree colleges in Kathua district. The winners of the competition were: First Prize: Vishal Gupta, GDC Kathua Second Prize: Rahul Sharma, GDC Kathua Third Prize: Sumit Kumar, GDC Kathua The jury panel included Sh. Ranjit Singh, KAS, Additional DC Kathua; Sh. Sukhdev Jamwal, DSP Traffic; and Dr. R.K. Manhas, Associate Professor, Department of Botany. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Yash Paul Sharma, Staff Secretary. The proceedings were anchored by Kanika Sharma and Nikita Sharma. Faculty members, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and non-teaching staff attended the event, which was organized by the Literary, Debate, and Symposium Committee of GDC Kathua. |
