Jammu, Jan 17: The Crime Branch (CB) has filed an FIR against a Mumbai-based property dealer for allegedly duping a private engineer from Jammu of Rs. 88.50 Lakhs under the guise of providing a 3BHK flat in Mumbai. The investigation into the matter has been initiated. According to the complaint lodged with the Crime Branch, the victim, Er. Bonish Behal, a resident of Dogra Bhawan, Old Janipur, Jammu, claimed that Ashish Dinesh Kumar Shah, a resident of Mumbai, had deceived him on the pretext of allotting a flat. The complainant said he met the accused at the Madheweshwar temple in SV Nagar, Mumbai, where Shah identified himself as a builder and property investor with strong ties to builders across the city. In March 2023, the accused showed the complainant pictures of an under-construction building and promised him a 3BHK flat. Trusting the accused, the complainant transferred Rs. 88.50 Lakhs through online payments, cheques, and cash on various dates to Shah’s account. However, when the complainant later approached Shah to finalize the flat deal, the accused repeatedly delayed the process, ultimately neither providing the flat nor returning the money. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Crime Branch Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that an FIR (No. 05/2025) has been registered at the EOW (Economic Offences Wing) of the Crime Branch Jammu, and a detailed investigation is underway. The SSP also advised the public to ensure that all payments for property transactions, whether within or outside Jammu & Kashmir, are made only after thorough verification of authentic documents and the credibility of property dealers or sellers. |
