Jammu, Jan 17: The Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu, under the guidance of Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, and Prof. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, organized a one-day “Farmer Awareness Cum Agricultural Input Distribution Programme” at village Meshian, Miran Sahib, Jammu. The event aimed to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on agriculture, while also distributing agricultural inputs to SC farmers to enhance their production and income.
The program, attended by more than 104 farmers (both male and female), was graced by Hon’ble Dr. Narinder Singh Raina, MLA (South-Jammu and R.S. Pura), as the Chief Guest. Prof. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, served as the Guest of Honour.
The event featured several expert presentations on key agricultural topics.
Dr. Mahender Singh, Professor and Head of the Agrometeorology Section, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural activities. He stressed the significance of utilizing weather and climate-based agro-advisories to optimize farming practices and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on crops.

He also assured the farmers that government schemes would be available to support them. As part of the program, he distributed agricultural inputs to the farmers.

Other experts, including Dr. B.R. Bazaya, Chief Scientist, and Dr. A.K. Singh, Professor of Entomology, shared valuable insights on efficient weed management, integrated pest control, and the use of agro-met advisories in vegetable crop planning.
