Jammu, Feb 4: The ninth Armed Forces Veterans’ Day was commemorated with great respect and enthusiasm at multiple locations across the country, including Jammu, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Bareilly, Jaipur, and Siliguri. Various events, including veterans’ rallies and wreath-laying ceremonies, were held to honor ex-servicemen for their selfless service and to reaffirm solidarity with the families of the bravehearts. In Jammu, the main event was organized at Tanda Artillery Brigade, Akhnoor, where Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh led the celebrations and addressed a gathering of around 1,000 ex-servicemen. He expressed his deep gratitude to both serving and retired Armed Forces personnel for their unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism in safeguarding the nation’s borders. He emphasized that the country will forever remain indebted to its soldiers and highlighted that the conduct of multiple Veterans’ Day events across India is a way of expressing collective national respect for them. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including J&K Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, J&K Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, senior civil and military officers, representatives of various ex-servicemen organizations, and war veterans. As a gesture of appreciation, mobility equipment such as motorized wheelchairs, shawls for Veer Naris, medallions, and caps were distributed to ex-servicemen. The initiative was supported by the State Bank of India (SBI), with the presence of Mr. Vimal Kishore, General Manager, and Mr. Kumar Jee Raina, Regional Manager of SBI, who handed over the donations to the veterans. The celebration served as a testament to the nation’s enduring gratitude and commitment to the welfare of its veterans, reinforcing their invaluable contribution to India’s defense and security. |
