Jalandhar, Feb 4: On the instructions of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Jalandhar, Sh. Budhiraj Singh, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) organized a Sensitization Programme for the Heads of Rural Development departments in Jalandhar district. The event was held at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office, Jalandhar, with the objective of enhancing awareness about standard formulation, the adoption of Indian Standards (IS), and the procurement of ISI-marked products in the Rural Development sector.
The programme was chaired by ADC Development, Jalandhar, who emphasized the importance of standardization in developmental projects. He commended BIS initiatives, including the BIS Care App, which facilitates consumers in verifying product authenticity and raising complaints regarding substandard goods.
Addressing the gathering, Sh. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO, delivered a detailed presentation covering department-specific standards, standard formulation, product certification, hallmarking, and the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). He also provided an overview of the BIS website and the Know Your Standards portal, highlighting that Indian Standards can now be accessed and downloaded free of cost. He urged the need for Sensitization Programs for Sarpanches and Secretaries of Gram Panchayats to promote awareness at the grassroots level.
Sh. Sanjiwan Singh Dadhwal, Key Resource Person, elaborated on the Hallmarking Scheme and conducted a live demonstration of the BIS Care App, explaining how to verify ISI-marked products and hallmarked Jewelry.
He also guided participants on how to register complaints in case of any discrepancies.
The programme was attended by Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) of Jalandhar district, along with representatives from PWD-B&R, PSPCL, MANREGA, Health, Water Supply and Sanitation departments
