Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-Jammu), under the aegis of the Directorate of Research and AICRP on Mushroom, organized a two-day hands-on training and awareness programme on mushroom cultivation and spawn production at the Mushroom Unit, Division of Plant Pathology. The training aimed to educate 15 scheduled caste farmers on the benefits of mushroom cultivation for livelihood security and nutritional benefits. Experts provided insights on different mushroom varieties suitable for Jammu's climate, including oyster and medicinal mushrooms. Practical sessions covered substrate preparation and cultivation techniques, while discussions addressed potential challenges in mushroom farming. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, and Dr. Vishal Gupta, Head, Division of Plant Pathology. Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Technical Officer, delivered detailed lectures and led practical demonstrations. Dr. Sachin Gupta, Incharge, Mushroom Unit, coordinated the event. To encourage participants, ready-to-fruit mushroom bags and tarpaulin sheets were distributed. The enthusiastic response from trainees indicated a keen interest in adopting mushroom cultivation as a sustainable livelihood. |
