Cong makes veiled attack on Omar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 8: Hours after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mocked Congress over its dismal performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, the party issued a veiled attack on its coalition partner, the National Conference (NC), while cautioning opposition parties against sidelining the grand old party in the fight against the BJP-RSS combine. “The fight against the BJP-RSS is impossible without Congress,” asserted Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, reacting to the Delhi poll results. Sharma attributed AAP’s defeat to its failure in governance over the past decade, coupled with its overconfidence and solo ambition to take on the BJP without forming an alliance. “AAP’s opportunistic politics, deceit, and over-ambition led to its downfall, indirectly benefiting the BJP. The election results clearly prove that no opposition party can effectively fight the BJP-RSS alone, especially when they control institutions like the ED, CBI, Income Tax, and other law enforcement agencies,” Sharma said. Issuing a warning to political forces that seek to challenge the BJP independently, Sharma emphasized that any selective or opportunistic opposition to "communal and divisive politics" only weakens the larger Congress-led resistance. “This should serve as a lesson for those who believe they can single-handedly take on the BJP-RSS or indulge in opportunistic alliances,” he said, in a remark widely seen as a subtle rebuke to National Conference leader Omar Abdullah. Despite the setback in Delhi, Sharma expressed confidence in Congress' re-emergence as a strong force, pointing to an increase in the party’s vote share. “Our performance may not have met expectations, but Congress remains strong and will continue to stand with like-minded secular forces. Our commitment to secularism and pro-people policies will ensure that we emerge stronger in the future,” he asserted. With Congress reaffirming its indispensability in the anti-BJP fight, the Delhi election debacle has not only deepened tensions within the INDIA bloc but also widened the rift between Congress and its coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir. |
