Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 27: The Department of Political Science at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women (PSPS GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, successfully organized a Youth Parliament on the theme "Has the Constitution Lived Up to the Expectations of Citizens of India?" The session was held at the Smart Classroom (M.G. Block) on February 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, and faculty members. The highlight of the Youth Parliament was the discussion on "The Constitution (Review and Citizens' Expectations) Amendment Bill, 2025," which was introduced and debated by the participants. The session provided a platform for young minds to critically analyze the Indian Constitution's performance over the years and assess whether it has met the evolving needs of citizens in a rapidly changing socio-political landscape. In his address, Dr. S.P. Saraswat, Principal of College, emphasised the significance of constitutional debates and encouraged students to engage with the principles of democracy, governance, and citizen rights. He noted that such discussions enhance awareness of constitutional provisions and the role of youth in shaping the future of Indian democracy. During the parliamentary debate, student participants played the roles of parliamentarians, constitutional experts, and citizen representatives, presenting diverse perspectives on key constitutional provisions, their implementation, and the need for amendments to address contemporary challenges. The Bill under discussion proposed a comprehensive review of the Constitution to ensure it aligns with present-day socio-economic and political realities. The event was moderated by Khushi Bhardwaj, Sem - 6th student of Department of Political Science, who commended the students for their well-researched arguments and constructive debates. Prof. Raj Kumar, Convenor of Session, congratulated the Department of Political Science for organizing a thought-provoking session and encouraged students to continue engaging in democratic processes and policy discussions. Mahi Gupta of Sem -2 , Sonika Sen of Sem -4, Samridhi Dubey of Sem -2, Neha Rana of Sem -3 and Aakrida Mahajan of Sem -2 / Anchita Badhan of Sem -4 were declared as top -5 speakers of Youth Parliament. |
