Early Times Report HIRANAGAR, Feb 27: Govt. G.L.D.M. Degree College, Hiranagar, and SPPND Govt. Degree College, Samba, jointly inaugurated a two-day celebration of National Science Day 2025, sponsored by the JK Science, Technology & Innovation Council, Department of Science & Technology. The event, held on February 27-28, commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by Saraswati Vandana. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, GDC Hiranagar, welcomed the Chief Guest, Prof. B.L. Koul (Former Principal, Department of Higher Education), Dr. Twinkle Suri, Principal, SPPND GDC Samba, and Resource Person, Dr. Swarkar Sharma, Director, Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu. She emphasized the importance of fostering scientific temperament and encouraged students to apply scientific knowledge for a sustainable future. Dr. Twinkle Suri highlighted the significance of the event's theme, "Fostering Scientific Temper and Innovation for a Sustainable Future", urging students to enhance their scientific skills. Prof. B.L. Koul provided valuable insights into the role of science in shaping society. Dr. Swarkar Sharma, in his invited lecture, elaborated on the concepts of innovation, invention, and start-ups, emphasizing their relevance in today's world. Dr. Poonam Kamotra, Convener, Science Club, discussed India's achievements in science and technology, while Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, IQAC Coordinator, spoke about the contributions of Dr. C.V. Raman. A PowerPoint presentation competition was also held, where students from GDC Hiranagar showcased their knowledge on various sub-themes. The jury members, Dr. Ram Krishan (GDC Hiranagar), Prof. Virender Pal Singh, and Prof. Munish Kumar (both from GDC Samba), adjudged Ms. Shavi Sharma, Mr. Narayan Singh, and Ms. Shweta as the top three winners. Prizes and certificates were awarded during the valedictory function. The event proceedings were conducted by Prof. Neeru Sharma, along with students Jhanvi and Shweta. Faculty members from both colleges were also present. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Neeru Sharma, HoD (EVS). |
