Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 27: In a significant step towards fostering moral and ethical values among students, a memorandum advocating the inclusion of Value-Based Education in Jammu and Kashmir's academic curriculum was presented to Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary (Higher and School Education, J&K UT). The initiative was spearheaded by Vichar Kranti Manch International (VKMI), which had earlier adopted 25 schools to impart moral education but faced disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the urgent need for a structured and sustainable approach to instilling moral values, VKMI's President, Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, along with his team, formally appealed to Shantmanu for the integration of value-based education at both school and higher education levels. The proposal was put forward during a special interaction and welcome program organized by the Global Peace Organization, where Shantmanu was the Chief Guest. The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished personalities, including I.D. Soni (Chief Adviser, VKMI), noted journalist Sohail Kazmi (Chairman, Taskeen Group of Publications), Harminder Kour (Secretary, Cultural Academy of Art, Culture & Languages), and Prof. Seema Rohmetra (Director, The Law School, Jammu University). A poem highlighting the significance of moral education was presented in honor of the Chief Guest by S.K. Jain. During the event, Altaf Hussain, Advocate & Chairman, presented a roadmap to institutionalize moral education as a compulsory subject in schools, colleges, and universities. Key proposals included: Establishment of a Directorate of Moral Education Creation of a dedicated PhD unit for research on moral and ethical education. Setting up of a university exclusively focused on moral and ethical education The VKMI delegation, including Vice Presidents Ashok Gupta and K.S. Samyal, Advisor C.M. Sharma, General Secretary & Punjab Coordinator Mrs. Anju Bansal, and Financial Advisor Abhinandan Jain, extended their full support to this initiative. In his address, Shantmanu assured that he would make his best efforts to incorporate Moral Education as a subject in the curriculum. Prof. Seema Rohmetra emphasized that a holistic evaluation of an individual should not be limited to Intelligence Quotient (IQ) but must also consider Social Quotient (SQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ). She also stressed the crucial role of parents and teachers in imparting value-based education to nurture well-rounded individuals.
