Mumbai, Mar 6: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to launch the first-ever “Great Indian Coastal Cyclothon” as part of its 56th Raising Day celebrations. The initiative, themed Secure Shores, Prosperous India, aims to raise awareness about national security along India’s coastline, highlighting threats such as smuggling of drugs, weapons, and explosives. Announcing the event at a pre-event press conference in Mumbai, Sudhir Kumar, Additional Director General, CISF, emphasized the significance of this unique initiative. A total of 125 CISF cyclists, including 14 women, will embark on a 6,553 km journey over 25 days, covering 11 states along India’s eastern and western coasts. The cyclothon will commence on March 7, 2025, from two locations: • Western Route (3,775 km): Lakhpat Fort, Gujarat • Eastern Route (2,778 km): Bakkhali Beach, West Bengal The event will be virtually flagged off by Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the CISF Regional Training Centre, Thakkolam, Tamil Nadu. The cyclists will traverse key coastal cities, including Mumbai, Goa, Mangalore, Kochi, Haldia, Konark, Vizag, Chennai, and Pondicherry, culminating at the Swami Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari on March 31, 2025. The cyclothon will feature multiple events along the route, including: • Demonstrations & Cultural Performances by CISF teams, schoolchildren, and NCC groups. • Major Events at Key Locations: Lakhpat Fort, Surat, Gateway of India (Mumbai), Mormugao Port (Goa), Mangalore, Cochin, Konark, Vizag, Chennai, and Pondicherry. • Special Event at Gateway of India (March 20): Featuring a Mumbai Police band, CISF fire, and dog squad drills. • Community Engagement: Cultural programs, cleanliness & plantation drives, outreach with fishermen, and awareness sessions on coastal security. The cyclothon will conclude with a grand closing ceremony featuring patriotic performances, a CISF band, and interactive community events. CISF has invited citizens to participate in the cyclothon at any stretch of their choice.
