Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 29: To commemorate the legacy of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a towering advocate for social justice, the Narendra Modi government has declared April 14, Ambedkar Jayanti, as a national holiday. This decision is a great tribute to one of India’s most influential leaders, whose efforts in championing equality, social reform, and educational empowerment remain inspirational.
Balbir Ram Rattan, Spokesperson Jammu and Kashmir BJP & former Vice Chairperson, said this while talking to party’s SC leaders about April 14 being declared as national holiday.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that the announcement reflects the government’s commitment to acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of leaders who have shaped India’s democratic and social fabric.
Balbir said that it has been the Narendra Modi government which is consistently according the status of a national holiday on Ambedkar Jayanti from 2015 onwards.
He said that the decision is part of the Modi government’s policy of recognizing dalit icons and promoting their contributions on a national stage.
Vijay Anand Gill, BJP SC Morcha Vice President, said that the previous governments run by Congress and other parties for decades after independence, and claiming to champions of social justice, did not take this step earlier.
The move also underscores the current administration’s effort to establish itself as a government dedicated to the ideals of social justice and inclusivity. It also reflects a healthy political outreach aimed at uniting various sections of society under the ideals championed by Ambedkar.
Ashok Gandhi, BJP SC Morcha senior leader, said that such gestures go beyond symbolism and contribute to the ongoing discourse about equality and social reform. As India continues to grapple with issues of caste and inequality, honouring Ambedkar’s legacy with a national holiday sends a powerful message of commitment toward building a more inclusive nation.
Hand Raj Loria, Office Secretary, BJP SC Morcha, said that this historic decision is anticipated to strengthen the ongoing efforts to bridge social and economic disparities, inspire younger generations to uphold the principles of equality, and encourage more inclusive governance at all levels.
