Early Times Report

Kathua, Mar 29: UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) successfully organized a one-day workshop on the topic “Build for AI” in collaboration with GDG (Google Developer Group) Jammu. The event provided an excellent platform for students to explore the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI), connect with industry experts, and gain insights into emerging technologies. The workshop featured an engaging and insightful session by Rishiraj Acharya, an esteemed AI expert from Kolkata. He is India’s first Google Developer Expert (GDE) in Machine Learning specializing in Generative AI and Keras. All the members of GDG, Jammu also interacted with the students.
The workshop commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Rockey Gupta, I/c Principal, UIET, along with faculty members and students. The workshop was conducted in two informative sessions. The first session featured an insightful and detailed presentation by the expert on “Fine-Tuning Usage-Specific LLMs for On-Device Apps”, shedding light on how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be customized and effectively integrated into on-device applications. He elaborated on how on-device fine-tuning enables AI-powered applications to function locally on user devices without relying heavily on cloud processing. Mr. Acharya demonstrated how fine-tuning allows LLMs to adapt to specific language patterns, contexts, and user preferences, making them more effective for personalized experiences.
Further the session also covered practical applications of fine-tuned LLMs, including their use in virtual assistants, predictive text, voice recognition systems, and real-time language translation. Following the technical session, Mr. Acharya interacted with the students, discussing the future career opportunities in Artificial Intelligence and its growing significance in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) field.
The second session, conducted post-lunch, featured an interactive Question and Answer (Q&A) round facilitated by GDG Jammu team members, including Mr. Abhinandhan Trilokia, Mr. Atul Sharma, Ms. Manat Abrol and Mr. Daljeet Kumar. During this session, the GDE group members engaged with the students, addressing their queries on AI technologies, industry trends, and career opportunities.
Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) in his message, praised the efforts of UIET and GDG Jammu. He emphasized the importance of practical exposure to emerging technologies and encouraged students to actively participate in such knowledge-sharing events. He commended the workshop, highlighting its role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, and preparing students for future technology-driven careers. He further stressed that in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, it is essential for students to gain practical exposure to emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence. He added that the insightful session by Rishi Raj Acharya offered the students a valuable opportunity to learn about fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs) and their real-world applications. Prof. Jasrotia emphasized that such workshops not only enhance students’ technical knowledge but also provide clarity on career prospects in the AI and Computer Science domain.
Dr. Rockey Gupta, I/c Principal, UIET also commended the initiative, highlighting the significance of industry-academia collaborations in equipping students with practical skills and exposure to emerging technologies. He stressed that such expert sessions play a crucial role in skill enhancement and motivating students to stay ahead in the competitive world of technology and innovation.
