JKAACL hosts 'Meet the Eminent Artist' featuring Vijay Kumar Sambyal

JAMMU, Mar 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) successfully organized the 'Meet the Eminent Artist' program at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu, featuring renowned classical singer and former Director of Radio Kashmir, Jammu, Vijay Kumar Sambyal, popularly known as 'Rangeeley Thakur.'
Held under the guidance of Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, the event aimed to introduce eminent artists to the younger generation and preserve their artistic legacy.
Born on January 17, 1955, in Mandi Kehli Samba, J&K, Vijay Kumar Sambyal developed a deep passion for Hindustani classical music from an early age. Trained under esteemed gurus, he mastered both vocal music and tabla, performing across the nation and earning prestigious accolades. A retired civil servant and scholar, he holds a Master's degree in Hindustani Vocal Music and Sociology. Dedicated to preserving India's rich musical heritage, he continues to mentor students through the Guru-Shishya Parampara, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
The program began with the felicitation of Sh. Vijay Kumar Sambyal by Sh. Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, who highlighted his immense contributions to Indian classical music.
Following the felicitation, the esteemed artist mesmerized the audience with a brief yet soulful performance, demonstrating his musical prowess. He also shared insights into his musical journey, the challenges he overcame, and his dedication to keeping Indian classical music alive. Accompanying him were Parshotam Kumar on Tabla, Nirmal Sufi on Harmonium, and Ridima Bajpai on Tanpura and Vocal Support.
The event was graced by several esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Ashok Bhan (Former DGP J&K), Padma Shri Jitender Udhampuri, K.B. Jandyal (Retd. IAS Officer), and other distinguished guests.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head, JKAACL, Jammu, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees and contributors for making the event a grand success. The program was skillfully anchored by Rajkumar Behrupia, adding an engaging touch to the proceedings.
JKAACL continues to uphold its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir through such enlightening events.
