Kavinder slams Opposition's Misrepresentation of Waqf Amendment Bill
4/4/2025 11:21:47 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 4: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta has expressed strong disapproval of the opposition's reaction to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 passed in the Parliament. The bill received approval from both houses of Parliament, with the Lok Sabha passing it on April 3, 2025, and the Rajya Sabha following suit in the early hours of April 4, 2025.
Speaking at the meeting held here today, the BJP stalwart emphasized that the amendments are designed to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties, which have historically been susceptible to mismanagement and corruption. He highlighted that the inclusion of non-Muslim members in Waqf boards aims to promote diversity and ensure impartial oversight, thereby strengthening communal harmony.
Kavinder criticized the opposition for distorting the intent of the legislation, accusing them of attempting to mislead the public and foment unnecessary communal tension. He stated that the amendments are a step toward inclusive and transparent management, free from communal biases.
Furthermore, the senior BJP leader criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's meeting with Alliance MLAs concerning the transfers of JKAS officers. He pointed out that under the current Union Territory governance structure, the authority to reshuffle administrative officers lies solely with the Lieutenant Governor.
He asserted that routine transfers of government officers are essential for maintaining efficiency and accountability in governance. He accused Omar Abdullah of politicizing standard administrative decisions for personal and political gain, rather than focusing on real governance challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The former deputy Chief Minister called upon political leaders to respect the constitutional framework and allow the administration to operate without unwarranted political interference. He reiterated the BJP's commitment to good governance, transparency, and the rule of law in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that political stability and administrative integrity are paramount for the region's development.
"Political stability and administrative integrity are the cornerstones of progress. It is imperative that we prioritize the interests of the people over political theatrics," he added.
