Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 5: In a major crackdown on illegal mining, Jammu Police has seized 189 vehicles and imposed fines totaling Rs 30.46 lakh during the first quarter of 2025 as part of its intensified efforts to protect natural resources and curb environmental violations. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, special drives were launched across Jammu District from January 1 to March 31, 2025, targeting individuals and entities involved in unauthorized mining operations. "As a result of these operations, 189 vehicles were seized, many of which were released only after fulfilling required legal formalities," SSP Singh stated. "The enforcement drive also led to the collection of Rs 30,46,403 in fines from violators." Further, the police registered an FIR against a vehicle repeatedly involved in illegal mining activities, underscoring the department's commitment to stringent legal action. Steps are also underway to cancel the registration of vehicles categorized as habitual offenders.
