Nagrota, Apr 8: The Cultural Committee of Government Degree College (GDC) Nagrota, in collaboration with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), organized an awareness lecture on organ donation and transplantation to sensitize students and faculty about the life-saving impact of organ donation. Dr. Irfan Ahmed Lone, State Coordinator of SOTTO, served as the resource person and delivered an engaging and informative session. He spoke on the types of organ donors, the procedure for transplantation, and the concept of Brain Stem Death (BSD). He also elaborated on SOTTO’s initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir, focusing on its efforts to spread awareness and streamline organ donation processes in the region. The lecture was interactive, with active participation from students and faculty, who raised several thought-provoking questions. Dr. Lone also addressed common myths related to organ donation—such as concerns about bodily disfigurement, age limitations, and religious hesitations—providing clear, factual responses to dispel these misconceptions. The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Arvind Sharma, Co-Convener of the Cultural Committee. In her address, Principal Prof. Anjali Mahajan stressed the urgent need for organ donors and the transformative power of voluntary donation. She also commended SOTTO for its dedicated efforts in promoting this noble cause. The event concluded with all attendees taking a pledge—“Donate Organs, Save Lives”—reaffirming their commitment to supporting organ donation. The session left a profound impact, inspiring many to consider becoming organ donors and contributing to this vital cause. |
