APS Damana Inaugurates ‘Shimani Choudhary 10M Shooting Range’

Jammu, Apr 8: Army Public School (APS) Damana marked a significant milestone in its journey of sporting excellence by inaugurating the ‘Shimani Choudhary 10M Shooting Range’ within the school premises. The event celebrated not only infrastructural advancement but also honored the achievements of the school’s proud alumna and star shooter, Shimani Choudhary, a Gold Medalist in the 24th All India Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship 2022, held in West Bengal.
The state-of-the-art shooting facility was inaugurated in a grand ceremony graced by Brigadier Vivek Puri, SM, PhD, Commander Chenab Brigade & Chairman APS Damana, who served as the Chief Guest. S. Surinder Singh Sodhi, President of JKRA, attended as the Guest of Honour, accompanied by other distinguished dignitaries including Sh. Sharat Chander (DySP) and CEO JKRA, Sh. Arun Mansotra, Treasurer JKRA, and Mr. Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, Founder Member & Chairman JKRA.
In a heartfelt moment, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Jamwal paid tribute to his father, Lieutenant Colonel SDS Jamwal, recalling his bravery during the Battle of Zojila on November 1, 1948, and a cherished memory from the 1971 Indo-Pak War, offering a poignant glimpse into the sacrifices and legacies of Indian Armed Forces families.
Shimani Choudhary, the young sharpshooter in whose name the range has been dedicated, was present as the Special Guest and gave a live demonstration of her marksmanship, inspiring young aspirants.
In his address, Brigadier Vivek Puri congratulated the school and emphasized the importance of practice, consistency, and dedication in mastering shooting as a sport. Principal Ms. Pushpinder Kaur reiterated the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible and disciplined athletes.
She shared her vision of seeing APS Damana students representing India at Olympics and international arenas.
The new shooting arena is set to uphold the school’s commitment to holistic development, offering students professional-grade training facilities in shooting sports. The event concluded with a high tea, marking the beginning of a new chapter in APS Damana’s sports journey.
