The campaign was conducted in collaboration with local authorities, community groups, and environmental activists, focusing on promoting eco-friendly practices during the festival. The purpose of the campaign was to educate and aware the public about the adverse effects of immersing non-biodegradable materials, such as plastics, synthetic colours, chunaris and idols made from harmful substances, into the Tawi River during the traditional Saakh Visarjan, as these practices lead to severe water pollution, threatening aquatic life, groundwater quality, and the overall ecosystem. The students and the volunteers interacted with the devotees and encouraged them to immerse only Khetri into the river. They also shared measures and techniques for the protection and conservation of Tawi River. While inaugurating the event, Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Convener, GCTF-JU stated that the goal of such events is to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the citizens towards the environment, especially during festive celebrations.
