Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 8: In a commendable initiative to blend spirituality with sustainability, the Live For Others - Being Helpful Foundation (LFO-BHF), in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation, Talla Jewellers, and NSS volunteers from Cluster University colleges and GCW Parade, conducted a two-day "Save Tawi Activity" on 5th and 6th April to mark Ashtami and Ramnavmi.
Under the leadership of Mr. Vivek Parihar, CEO & Director of LFO-BHF, the campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers of GGM Science College, SPMR Commerce College, M.A.M College, GCW Parade, Govt. College of Education Canal Road, and P.S.P.S Govt. PG College.
The core message was to respect religious practices while safeguarding the environment. Volunteers guided devotees to immerse only the sacred saakh in the Tawi River while collecting non-biodegradable waste separately for recycling-a move that balances devotion and environmental consciousness.
Thanks to consistent awareness efforts, the total waste collected was 1300 kg, showing a reduction compared to previous years, signaling a growing public awareness.
Dr. Amitpal Kour, NSS Coordinator, Cluster University of Jammu, played a crucial role in mobilizing youth for the cause. Mr. Samar, Secretary and Environment Domain Incharge, passionately addressed devotees, urging them to see every sacred ritual as a pledge to protect nature.
Volunteers such as Diya, Shubam, Sahil, Kashish Katoch, Kashish, Vidit, Abhishek Raina, Abhishek, Kashvi, and Rubina, among many others, demonstrated the power of youth-led environmental action.
The campaign stood as a shining example of community spirit, youth leadership, and eco-consciousness, reinforcing that devotion and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.
