| Jammu police foils illegal Khair wood transportation in Gharota | | |

JAMMU, Apr 10: In a major action against forest smuggling, Jammu Police successfully intercepted an attempt to illegally transport Khair wood in the Gharota area during the intervening night of April 9 and 10, 2025. Acting on alertness and vigilance, a police party from Police Station Gharota had established a checkpoint at Jandial Chowk. During routine checking, an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK02DD 6763 was signaled to stop. However, the driver attempted to flee, prompting a swift response from the police team, which intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with Khair wood pieces and twigs, suspected to be intended for illegal sale and transportation for undue profit.
A case was registered at Police Station Gharota, and after completion of all legal formalities, the vehicle along with the seized Khair wood was handed over to the Forest Department for further action under the provisions of the Forest Act.
Jammu Police reiterated its firm resolve to curb illegal activities and safeguard the region's forest resources, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate in reporting such unlawful acts. |
