55 bovines rescued, 3 smuggling bids foiled in Nagrota | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 10: As part of the intensified Operation Kamdhenu, Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully foiled three bovine smuggling attempts in Sub-Division Nagrota, rescuing 55 bovines and seizing three vehicles. In two separate operations conducted by Police Station Nagrota at Naka Ban Toll Plaza, 36 bovines were rescued from vehicles bearing registration numbers JK19/9416 and JK02CD/0130. One smuggler, identified as Mohd Rafiq, son of Mohd Shafi of Chamalwas, Banihal, was arrested, while the driver of the second vehicle managed to flee. In a parallel operation, Police Station Jhajjar Kotli rescued 19 bovines at Naka Point Panjal from vehicle JK20C/6359. The driver fled the scene, evading arrest. Three FIRs have been registered in connection with the smuggling attempts: FIR Nos. 68/2025 and 69/2025 under Sections 223/BNS and 11 PCA Act at PS Nagrota FIR No. 51/2025 at PS Jhajjar Kotli under relevant legal provisions Investigations are underway in all the cases. The local community has lauded the police for their swift and effective actions in curbing bovine smuggling and upholding the rule of law. |
