Jammu police foils illegal Khair wood smuggling in Akhnoor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 10: In a continued crackdown on forest smuggling, Jammu Police intercepted an illegal transportation of Khair wood in the Akhnoor area during routine naka checking at Maira Mandrian. The police team from Police Station Akhnoor stopped a Maruti vehicle bearing registration number JK0C 2225. The vehicle was being driven by Anshu Singh, son of Kamal Singh, accompanied by Shamsher Lal, son of Kali Dass-both residents of Ranjan, Tehsil Bhalwal, District Jammu. On inspection, around 3/4 quintal of Khair wood was found loaded in the vehicle. Upon questioning, neither the driver nor the co-passenger could present valid documents or provide a satisfactory explanation for transporting the forest produce. The vehicle, along with the individuals, was taken into custody, and the Forest Department was immediately informed. Further action under relevant provisions of the Forest Act is underway. Jammu Police reaffirmed its commitment to curbing illegal forest exploitation and ensuring the preservation of ecological resources through sustained enforcement and vigilance. |
