UP emerging as country's 'most favored destination' in IT-ITES sector | | | Agencies LUCKNOW, Apr 10: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision to transform Uttar Pradesh into the "Uttam Pradesh" of India is swiftly becoming a reality. A key part of this transformation is the rapid progress the state has made in the IT and IT-enabled Services (ITES) sector since 2017. Under the Yogi government's strategic efforts to unlock the state's full potential, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed significant growth in the IT-ITES sector. This sector is now emerging as a vital pillar in the state's economic transformation and is closely aligned with the government's ambitious goal of building a $1 trillion economy. Noida has already established itself as one of the country's major IT hubs, attracting leading tech companies and startups alike. Meanwhile, other cities such as Lucknow and Kanpur are also making rapid strides in developing robust digital infrastructure and business ecosystems, further cementing Uttar Pradesh's position as a most-favored destination for IT and ITES investments. Notably, Uttar Pradesh has approved investment proposals worth over Rs 27,000 crore in the IT/ITES sector. Out of this, projects worth Rs 5,600 crore have already been implemented, while work on the remaining projects is moving ahead quickly. A report by Deloitte highlights Uttar Pradesh's growing role in the IT-ITES sector. According to the report, this sector currently contributes 3.2% to the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), and this share is expected to grow beyond 5% in the coming years. IT exports from the state have already crossed Rs 75,000 crore, with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) contributing over Rs 43,000 crore in exports in 2023-24 alone-showing a strong annual growth rate of 16%. In recent years, Noida has rapidly grown into a leading tech center and is now set to compete with other major IT cities in India. One of the biggest examples of this is Microsoft's state-of-the-art research center in Noida, spread across 15 acres and set to employ 15,000 people. This will be Microsoft's largest campus outside the United States. NASSCOM has also recognized Lucknow and Kanpur as emerging tech hubs. In Lucknow, a massive 258-acre IT City is being developed with a modern "walk-to-work" setup to support the IT ecosystem. Additionally, IBM is planning to set up an advanced software lab in Lucknow focused on Artificial Intelligence and IT solutions, aiming to make it a leader not just in India, but globally as well.
