Kashmir Bar pushed anti-India agenda for decades: Ex-DGP Swain | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14: In a seminar held in the national capital on national security, former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain made explosive claims about the Kashmir Bar Association, alleging that for nearly 28 years, its preamble openly referred to Kashmir as a disputed territory and even included the objective of internationalizing the issue. Speaking candidly at the event, Swain remarked, “This preamble was written and endorsed by individuals who had taken an oath under the Constitution of India—yet in courtrooms, they openly challenged its authority.” He called such contradictions “unacceptable” and emphasized the urgent need to draw red lines that cannot be crossed. In a separate media interaction, Swain claimed that a group of just 30 lawyers from the erstwhile Kashmir High Court Bar Association controlled nearly 70–80% of legal business in the region. He alleged that these lawyers were not only hindering government policies but were also, “aiding enemies through legal means.” "If you wanted to win a case in the High Court, these 30 lawyers were practically gatekeepers. Forget how they helped the enemy—forget how they frustrated every government move," Swain said. He called it the “sad reality of separatist politics” in the Valley and warned that those promoting anti-India narratives “will not be spared.” Swain also offered deep insight into Pak The Kashmir Bar Association for nearly 28 years openly referred to Kashmir as a disputed territory. Such contradictions are “unacceptable” and the need of the hour is to draw red lines that cannot be crossed. He said Pakistan is no longer interested in full-scale war, but rather seeks to inflict incremental disruptions to raise the cost of India’s presence in the region. "Islamabad’s aim is to make India question the viability of its commitment to J&K," Swain explained, adding that this strategy is bolstered by a global narrative campaign that portrays India as an obstacle to development in the Union Territory. Addressing skepticism surrounding the post-2019 abrogation of Article 370, Swain acknowledged that some political voices continue to argue that the prevailing peace is “imposed” rather than organic. However, he dismissed these claims, stating, “Anyone who visits the Valley today can see the difference. These arguments simply don’t hold.” He urged the public and political leadership alike to resist internal criticism during difficult times, stating, “Rather than turning inward and questioning our own government, we must stay focused and committed to the national line.” Swain concluded his address with a call for national consensus on issues of internal security and Jammu and Kashmir. “India’s democracy is a sacred value. On matters of national security, we must speak with one voice. Mixed messaging only strengthens those working against us,” he cautioned. |
