Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 18: Director Natrang Balwant Thakur inaugurated a Dance workshop at Natrang Studio Theatre with the lighting of traditional lamp. Aimed at promoting the art of dance amongst youth this workshop has been organised by Natrang. Speaking on the occasion Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that in the whole of Jammu & Kashmir we hardly have training opportunities in the field of dance. This has resulted in the promotion of sheer mediocrity in this field. The designated institutions mandated to promote this art are hardly bothered to train the young aspirants in this field. Instead a fashion is being encouraged where untrained dancers are being given the performance opportunities thus resulting in poorest of poor performances on stage. This trend has sabotaged the cause of culture. Natrang has the credit of taking the dances of J&K to national/international dance events. Perhaps Natrang is the only organisation which has taken the dances of Jammu & Kashmir to the majority of International Festivals held in London, Dubai, Russia, Germany, Bhutan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. For making it to the international events one has to acquire a level of excellence and average level performers have no takers. On the occasion, Balwant Thakur also informed that Natrang is the only cultural institution of Jammu & Kashmir which has been empanelled by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs for international performances. To make it to that level, the group and its performances are required to achieve that level of world excellence. Natrang also takes pride in the fact that the most prestigious festival of the post India independence period, G20 Cultural show was devised, designed, executed, performed and presented by Natrang. In the current dance workshop which is being conducted by the ace choreographer Sunny Mujoo a diverse range of dance practices are being introduced. Jammu & Kashmir being multi-cultural and having a diverse range of dance traditions, an effort is being made to introduce all the participants to the entire diversity of the region. Those who are taking part in this workshop include Muskan Thakur, Isha Sharma, Amit Rana, Arun Sharma, Kangana Pradhan, Vishvjeet Singh, Anuradha, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Mahi Thakur, Radhika Khajuria, Suhani Bhasin, Vrinda Gujral, Kunal Singh Jamwal, Aryan Sharma, Vanshika Manhas, Manvi Devi, Kartik Kumar and Boomika Pandita. |
