Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 24: The Postgraduate Department of Food Science and Technology at PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, organized a one-day extension lecture on the topic "Scope of Value-Added Products" to raise awareness among students about the growing potential in the food processing sector, especially regarding the value addition of fruits and vegetables. Held under the esteemed guidance of the college Principal, Prof. Geetanjali Rana, the program aimed to enlighten and inspire students to explore entrepreneurial avenues in food processing. Prof. Rana appreciated the department's efforts in organizing the event and urged students to become "job givers rather than job seekers," highlighting the importance of innovation and self-employment in today's competitive job market. The session featured Dr. Gul Syed, Chief Canning and Processing Instructor (Deputy Director), Fruit and Vegetable Craft Centre, Chand Nagar, as the resource person. Welcomed by Dr. Anuradha Gandotra, Head of the Department of Food Science, Dr. Syed delivered an in-depth and insightful presentation on the vast possibilities within the domain of value-added food products. She emphasized novel techniques in food preservation and packaging and encouraged students to consider food processing as a promising career option and a path toward economic independence. The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 50 students, who engaged actively with the speaker, asking questions and gaining practical knowledge about current trends and technologies in the industry. The successful event was smoothly coordinated by students Ms. Kavneet Kour and Upasana Sharma, under the guidance of the department faculty. The initiative was well-received by both students and faculty members, reinforcing the college's commitment to bridging academics with industry-relevant exposure and skill development. |
