Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 24: The NSS Units and department of Political Science of Government Degree College Ganderbal organized a one-day awareness program on "Leveraging Panchayati Raj Institutions for Vikshit Bharat" on Thursday. The event was organised in commemoration of National Panchayati Raj Day and aimed to highlight the significance of Panchayati Raj, local governance, and citizen participation in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. Under the patronage of the College Principal, Prof. Fouzia Fatima, the seminar was jointly organised by Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter (AP/ HOD, Urdu; NSS Program Officer-i), Dr. (Lt) Salma Khan (HOD, Political Science), and Dr Mansha Nisar (HOD, EVS; NSS PO-ii). The event was moderated by Dr Salma Khan, Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray (HOD, Islamic Studies) acted as the repporteur, and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter. The keynote speaker, Dr. Farooq Ahmad (independent researcher; and an Alumni of the host college) discussed in detail the historical, political and sociological aspects of Panchayati Raj. He stressed the importance of empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions for inclusive development and urged investment in local governance. "Without empowering panchayati raj the dream of inclusive development and development at the last mile is not possible", he said. He stressed that we should invest in local governance to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat. A certificate of appreciation was presented to the learned resource person at the end of the program. The event drew a substantial audience of students and faculty, reflecting the topic's relevance and the academic enthusiasm for meaningful and thoughtful discussions. |
