ACB traps cop in bribery case

Jammu, June 14: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday trapped one police head constable in a bribery case The ACB spokesman said that a complaint was received alleging therein that a public servant, namely Head Constable Roshan Din of Police Station Kathua, who is investigating the case, registered at Police Station Kathua, demanded illegal gratification from the complainant on account of deleting and removing his name from the list of accused persons in the said case, even though he provided CCTV footage and attendance in the factor on the date of occurrence in order to prove his innocence.
The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant for deleting his name from a case registered at Police Station Kathua. After negotiation, the accused agreed to take a bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the complainant, he said.
The spokesman added that since the complainant didn’t want to pay a bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the accused public servant under the law.
On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand of a bribe by the public servant, and accordingly, a case was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu, and an investigation was taken up.
During the course of the investigation, he said that a trap team was constituted, and it laid a successful trap and accused the public servant after accepting a bribe amount of Rs 15000 from the complainant, sensing the presence of ACB on the spot, he fled away from the spot and threw the tainted bribe money in the bushes on the NHW near Palli.
The tainted bribe money was recovered from the bushes by independent witnesses and seized in the instant case, he added.
The search was also conducted in the residential house of the accused in presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses, he said. “However, the accused person is still at large, and the investigation of the case is in progress.
