Amarnath Yatra 2025: Record security deployment amid high alert
6/26/2025 11:29:05 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 26: In a first-of-its-kind security deployment, the 2025 Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra will be guarded by nearly 50,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), marking the highest-ever presence of security forces for the annual pilgrimage. The massive security umbrella will be in place across the two traditional routes—Pahalgam and Baltal—to ensure a foolproof and incident-free Yatra.
The CRPF will operate in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, carrying out a multi-layered security plan that includes road opening patrols, IED detection and disposal units, and 24x7 surveillance. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will be strategically stationed at vulnerable points, while satellite phones and signal jammers will be installed in all convoy vehicles for secure communication and threat mitigation.
As a precautionary measure, all approach roads to the National Highway will be sealed during the passage of Yatra convoys to prevent any unauthorized movement or potential threats.
To boost real-time situational awareness, the deployment will include high-tech surveillance drones, bomb disposal squads, and specially trained canine units. These will operate continuously along both pilgrimage routes, providing aerial and ground-level security coverage throughout the 38-day Yatra, which begins on July 3 and concludes on August 9.
All pilgrims and convoy vehicles will be tagged with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to enable real-time location tracking and crowd control. The system will assist security personnel in monitoring movement patterns and coordinating swift responses in case of emergencies or disruptions.
Officials have clarified that the reduction in Yatra duration from 52 days in 2024 to 38 days this year is based on religious calendar considerations, and not linked to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which had claimed multiple lives and raised security concerns.
The upgraded security framework comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control, following cross-border aggression targeting civilian and military installations in recent months. In response, Indian armed forces carried out precision retaliatory strikes on Pakistani military positions.
Given the prevailing security climate, the Amarnath Yatra 2025 has been declared a national-level high-security event, with multi-agency coordination involving the CRPF, Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence services.
Authorities have assured that all necessary measures are in place to ensure that the pilgrimage is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, devotion, and safety, reaffirming the government's commitment to uphold the sanctity and security of one of the most revered religious journeys in the country.
