Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 24: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assured full support from the Central Government to the Jammu and Kashmir administration in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for families affected by the recent cloudburst and flash floods in Chishoti village of Kishtwar district, which claimed 65 lives.
Although the Defence Minister was unable to visit the cloudburst-affected area due to inclement weather, he chaired a high-level review meeting at Raj Bhavan in Jammu to assess the rescue and relief operations. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, senior Army officers, and top officials from the civil administration.
During the meeting, Singh was briefed on the scale of devastation and ongoing response efforts by multiple agencies, including the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He directed all stakeholders to intensify operations and ensure timely assistance to the affected families.
“The Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is leaving no stone unturned in extending support to those affected by this tragic incident,” Singh said.
He also praised the coordination and swift response shown by various departments and forces during the crisis.
After the review meeting, the Defence Minister visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu, where several survivors from the Kishtwar cloudburst have been admitted for treatment. Accompanied by the Lieutenant Governor and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Rajnath Singh interacted with the injured and inquired about their medical condition and the care being provided.
“Visited Jammu Medical College and met those who were injured due to the cloudburst and flash floods at Chishoti in Kishtwar. Praying for the speedy recovery of all the injured,” he posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Due to weather-related constraints, Singh could not visit the affected site in Kishtwar but monitored the situation via video conferencing from Jammu. “Reviewed the situation at Chishoti from Jammu via video conferencing facility,” he wrote in another post on X.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment, the Defence Minister emphasized that all necessary resources would be made available to the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure effective rehabilitation of the victims and restoration of normalcy in the flood-ravaged region.
